A new Class To Mounts Bay Sailing Club for the Season

The Windfoil is essentially a Windsurfer on a
Hydrofoil.

The Windfoil began its development in the
current form approximately 4 years ago and in
that short space of time has gained an
enormous following worldwide with many
traditional windsurfer sailors progressing to
using foils, some of whom now foil almost
exclusively!

The Windfoiler Has Taken The Sailing World By Storm

This has been seen in its relatively early acceptance into the Olympic sailing program. Its first appearance is due for the Paris 2024 games.

Mounts Bay Sailing Club has always been a leader in WA when it comes to hosting and fostering high
performance sailing craft. It began in the early eighties when former member and WA Premier Richard
Court invented the ‘wings’ for 18ft Skiffs. This innovation has been adopted on high-performance skiffs
around the world. Also, advances and initial experimentation done with the Foiling Moths was
undertaken on the world renown lawns of Mounts bay.

Windfoilers at Mounts Bay

In line with Mounts bays undertaking in creating and fostering the Windsurfing LT fleet in early 2019 the club once again took the initiative and the lead in creating a Windfoil fleet for the current season as a complimentary gesture to the new crop of foiling sailors.

In late 2020 Mounts bay held and ran the inaugural Windfoil state titles with great success that showcased the new sport.

Mounts Bay will continue holding racing for the remainder of the season on Sundays so if you are keen to participate or learn more about this exciting new form of sailing then you can either contact Steve Schneider on 0403584428 or come on down to the Bay.
