OutThere Sailing is the most exciting teen sailing course in Perth, offering eager youngsters the chance to try dinghy sailing, windsurfing, stand up paddle-boarding and powerboating in the one program. Our Australian Sailing qualified instructors ensure teens learn to sail in a safe, supportive environment.

Participants learn basic boating skills across a variety of craft and increase your child’s abilities and confidence out on the water. Sailing is a amazing sport for growing young minds, providing both a fun experience and opportunities for enthusiastic teens to progress to competitive sailing.

Designed especially to be fun and engaging for 12 to 17-year-olds, OutThere Sailing also focuses on the social element of the club environment. The collaborative nature of sailing is a great opportunity for high schoolers to develop team-building skills and forge lasting friendships in the process.

Our young OutThere sailors have a fantastic time bonding with their peers, whether that be on the water, on the beach or in the clubhouse. The program provides an inclusive social environment for teenagers to cultivate real friendships, whilst potentially igniting a love for sailing in the process.

Sailing is a wonderful sport for teens to get involved in, providing a physical and mental challenge and building key life skills in the process. Learning to sail helps develop coordination and teamwork skills while tapping into their math and science knowledge in a fun and practical way.

At Mounts Bay Sailing Club, our ‘learn to sail’ courses for Perth teens encourage high school-aged youth to get out in nature and embrace everything our beautiful waterways have to offer. No sailing experience is necessary – the OutThere sailing program is designed to suit beginners as well as participants with a few basic skills on the water.

By building sailing skills across multiple craft, we get teens outdoors and active during their evenings or school holidays. Our expert instructors are fully qualified and are passionate about giving youth the confidence to embrace their next adventure.

What skills are taught in this sailing course for teenagers?

OutThere sailing aims to teach participants a range of boating skills in a fun and cooperative environment. Over the course of the program, OutThere Sailing covers:

  • Dinghy sailing lessons
  • Introductory powerboating skills
  • Windsurfing for teens
  • Stand-up paddleboarding in low winds

A great introduction to water-based sports and the skills required to sail successfully, all through the lens of having fun with friends. Perfect for beginners, this introductory sailing courses for teens introduces dinghy sailing, powerboating, windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding. Participants will develop new skills through exciting exercises and put them to good use in fun, on-water activities.

Build on the introductory skills learnt in OutThere Sailing 1, helping high school sailors take their abilities to the next level. Our expert instructors will help participants master their skills with an emphasis on their preferred craft, helping build confidence towards independent sailing.

And for those teenagers who inevitably fall in love with sailing, flexible pathways are available to continue with windsurfing or sailing at Mounts Bay. Our learning and development programs offer ongoing opportunities for both leisure sailing and training toward competitive racing.

Designed to introduce teenagers to a variety of water-based craft and classes of boat, this beginner’s sailing course will leave your teen with skills and memories to last a lifetime. Similar to our regular OutThere Sailing courses, the school holiday programs cover beginners sailing, powerboarding, paddle-boarding and windsurfing lessons for teens.

Course dates:

Monday 11 January – Friday 15 January 2021 | 10.00am – 2.00pm
Monday 18 January – Friday 22 January 2021 | 10.00am – 2.00pm

Combines OutThere Sailing 1 & 2. In our school holiday programs, teens who enjoyed Week 1 can do Week 2 to build on their introductory skills. An incentive is offered during Week 1 to bring a friend for Week 2, allowing friends to remain together regardless of what level within the program they are at.

All sailing courses are held at Mounts Bay Sailing Club in Crawley, Perth.

Friday Night Teens Sailing @ MBSC

Join us on selected Friday evenings for a fun, family-friendly sailing session on the Swan. The perfect environment for teenagers to have fun, socialise and develop their sailing skills at the same time. Whether your high schooler is keen on competitive sailing or just wants to enjoy themselves out on the water, all abilities and experience levels are welcome.

After your sail, stay back with the family and enjoy a tasty meal in the Mounts Bay clubhouse alfresco area! It’s the perfect way to welcome the weekend.
Cost: $20 per session – come to one session or come to all! Bring a friend for free is available for those who attend 3+ sessions.

Available: Selected Fridays from 4:30pm – 6:30pm

Teen Learn To Sail Classes FAQs

Safety on the water is a top priority at MBSC. The club provides all the safety equipment needed, including life jackets. All our instructors maintain current qualifications and certificates dictated by Australian Sailing and MBSC, including first aid training and working with children checks.

No, club membership is needed to participate in a school holiday sailing activity.

All safety equipment is provided by the club.

You will need to bring:

  • Lunch – fridges are available.
  • Clothes & Shoes (including change) – wear ones you don’t mind getting wet in
  • Towel
  • Drink bottle
  • Hat
