Opening Day regattas are an important event to be enjoyed each year, and MBSC’s 1906 Opening Day regatta shown in this photo looked to be an enjoyable occasion for everyone, including the many on water spectator boats and the big crowds on both sides of the river.

The photo is taken from Kings Park looking towards Mill Point, South Perth which was the usual starting and finishing area for the sailing Clubs at that time, due to them having Clubhouses along the Perth foreshore and there being no bridge from Mill Point until the 1950s. The start line and associated boats are difficult to tell from all the other boats in the area, but are most likely in the centre of the photo.
Included here is a description of the day’s sailing on the page 53 from the 1906/07 Yachting and Motor Boat Annual.
