1935-36 MBSC start boat and skiffs with quarry in background.

From Greg MBSC Club Archivist
In the background of this photo from the 1935-36 season, is Kings Park and Mounts Bay Road, with a quarry on the side of the hill, which it can be assumed is where we get the name of Quarry Buoy.  The launch is the MBSC start & finish boat (official boat) and next to it is the 16ft Skiff of Jack Mitchell who may be receiving an award for winning a race which was the usual practice in that era.
The photo is extracted from the book about Jack Mitchell donated by his family.

An update from Damien Smith

A Chook Affair – Tasar World Championship exposed!
This week ACA tracked down the team responsible for the MBSC Tasar world championship fiasco. Despite completing every race, their scorecard contained none of the letters earned by other teams like OCS and BFD. I asked skipper, Damien Smith, are you bitter and who do you blame!? “I’m pretty happy with our results hei hei.” Infamous sailing coach Chompy the shark interjected, “Damian and Lorelei have really stepped up with their starting, half the regatta they were in the front row and got a lane.” “But then we lose it and have to bail out”, added Lorelei.  “Looking for clear air, is the right thing to do,” continued Chompy, “maintaining your lane in this fleet is tough”.
“We seemed faster at the end of the race.” conjectured Lorelei Barnes-Smith the MBSC Tasar for’ard hand. “Good observation kid”, said the flakie coach. “I’m tensing up at the start and over sheeting, I think we both lacked focus just after the start” added Damien. “Once you fall out of the front row, it’s a pinball machine.”
This ACA expose is missing the drama your chicken journalists had imagined. To bring things back on track I asked, “Is there any hope?!”. “We can keep up with fast boats!” answered Lorelei” “Yep, we’ve learned a lot. Last day of the regatta, we ended up on the port lay line with one of the faster boats We even managed to pick up a couple of boat lengths on them, A big shift near the end of the leg cost us both about 40 boats.” added Damien.  How did that feel? ”. “Intense, keeping up requires focus.”
A Chook Affair tried again, should they do something? “The regatta organisation at Sandringham was excellent and it would be great to see more MBSC Tasars stepping up.” replied Damien Smith.  “The winners, Jonathan and Libby McKee were really nice” added Lorelei.
“Have you thought about chasing something”, asked Chompie “on ACA their always chasing a dodgy tradie…” added the Shark. Like what? “We are in Melbourne Hei Hei, how about a tram?”…. … Next week on ACA, dogie trams what to do I you get caught!
