A big month for Windsurfing

Congratulations to the large fleet of Windsurfers from MBSC who attended the World Championships at South of Perth Yacht Club. It was a grueling week of strong winds and included course racing, slalom, marathon and freestyle events.
With over 260 participants it was a fantastic spectacle on the river.
Special congratulations to Craig Bell who took out third place in his division.

A few came down to enjoy a beer and a meal post championships; Dutch winner (11th World Wide, Ella van der Sluijs visited the club too!).

2024 Windsurfer World Championships

The Flying Dutch Girl!

No 11 in the Windsurfer World Championship – Dutch Winner Ella van der Sluijs dropped in to say hi and meet the MBSC crew!

Huge congratulations to the Creative Windows 80th Australian Sharpie National Champions, Jason Heritage and his crew Chris Martin and James Hughes!
The WA Team sailed great with some outstanding performances.
3rd Place – The Lizard – Peter Chappel, Pete Nicholas & Matt Jahn
A remarkable performance in the Creative Windows 80th Australian Sharpie Nationals these guys raced consistently in the top 5, with two bullets narrowly taking out 3rd place in a count back to past champions, highlighting the intense nature of the regatta. Congratulations to Peter Chappel, Pete Nicholas, and Matt Jahn for their well-deserved success!
11th Place – Atomic Blonde – Ash Gabrielson, Dave Nixon & Craig Mann
Reminiscing on their nationals combination in Flying Ants, Ash & Craig teamed up as a force to be reckoned with. Despite their limited preparation time, the team exhibited incredible resilience and determination. Their journey was not without challenges, as they faced a setback on invitation day when they lost their full rig. However with their combined accomplished skills Ash Gabrielson, Dave Nixon, and Craig Mann showcased adaptability, ultimately securing the 11th position. Top notch effort!
13th Place – Vicious – Graham Keys, Marty Sale & Tom Batt
Racing at Nationals tipped to be Keysie’s edge, these guys sailed a tremendous regatta. With Marty’s last-minute inclusion on the sheet and no prior sailing together before arriving at Mordialloc, the team demonstrated that experience and good teamwork are indeed key to a successful regatta. A 5th place in race one and consistent positioning in the top 15 underscored their adaptability and sailing skill. Congratulations to Graham Keys, Marty Sale, and Tom Batt for a stellar performance at the Nationals!
A huge congratulations to Team VIC for organizing and hosting a great regatta.
Congratulations to all competitors, from WA we all hope you enjoy your safe travels home.
