The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) advises members of the public that recent high rainfall events have led to an influx of nutrients and elevated levels of algae being detected in the mid to upper reaches of the Swan River. Affected waters may appear cloudy and have a reddish-brown discolouration.
DBCA is continuing to monitor the situation, however information from members of the public is also welcome. Anyone who sees dead or sluggish fish in the Swan Canning Riverpark are asked to report this to FishWatch on 1800 815 507 and avoid swimming in that area. The public is also advised to not collect dead fish and to prevent their dogs from consuming dead animals that may appear along the river foreshore.
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL PEN & MOORING HOLDERS & ALL MEMBERS
Do not access or moor your vessel on the “T” section
at the end of the pen jetty.
IT IS IN IMMINENT DANGER OF COLLAPSING
Recent pen inspections have uncovered further evidence of deterioration of the steel head stocks supporting this jetty section. It is now at a stage of becoming extremely dangerous to use this jetty.
Negotiations and quotes to repair/replace the section have been sought over the last two years, however, the Club should have an acceptable quote by the end of March with work commencing soon after. The Pen committee will also attempt some remedial work to stabilise the problem.
Meanwhile, we ask all Club members and Pen Holders to respect our request to not enter the area shown on the plan below as you will enter at your own risk.
Warning signs and safety tape will be placed around the area in the next few days.
