Perth School Sailing Programs @ Mounts Bay
Looking for an exciting extracurricular sport for primary school or high school students? Sailing is a fantastic rec sport activity for kids of all ages, providing both physical and mental challenges and encouraging a love of the outdoors.
Mounts Bay Sailing Club can work with your primary or secondary school to tailor a ‘learn to sail’ program. Our qualified coaches have experience working with school groups of all ages and can customise sailing classes to suit all age groups and abilities.
Our staff are experienced in running programs consisting of up to 50 students from schools around the local area. We have a thriving junior sailing learning & development program at Mounts Bay along with our regular school holiday sailing programs for kids and teens. All of this knowledge and experience is adapted to design the ideal school sporting program to suit your schedule and the children’s level of development.
At Mounts Bay, school sailing programs can be run as a series of 1-2 hour lessons over a term, or organised as a non-residential camp over a block of 3-5 days. Our learn to sail programs are ideal as a regular school sport for Perth schools, extracurricular sport or a fantastic leadership camp or team building activity.
MBSC provides all equipment including boats suitable for primary school or high school students, life jackets and qualified sailing instructors for each school program.
Sailing is a year-round sport here at MBSC and we welcome school groups during every term. Take advantage of Perth’s mild winters and choose sailing as a winter school sport, or get kids out on the water as a fun summer activity. Our experience coordinating school sports makes sailing at Mounts Bay easy to organise as well as safe and cost-effective.
Mounts Bay Sailing Club can assist designing a customised sailing course for classes such as Outdoor Education, Physical Education or even Marine Studies where boating lessons for students can form part of the curriculum.
For older students we even have a variety of vessels on offer, including dinghy sailing, stand-up paddleboarding and windsurfing – you won’t find a more exciting school sport in Perth!
Mounts Bay Sailing Club has a long history of outreach in the local area, offering a fun and exciting extracurricular sporting opportunity to primary schools in Perth. Teachers, school co-coordinators and parents are encouraged to get in touch with our school sailing coordinators and discover how we can share the joy of sailing with your children.
School sports programs are a fantastic way of getting kids connected to the local community, above and beyond the benefits of staying active. At Mounts Bay Sailing Club, we have a thriving junior sailing program, giving kids the opportunity to progress through our learning & development pathway or simply have a great time sailing.
Many of our junior sailors join our regular program after participating in school sailing lessons or programs, emphasising the important role school sports have to play in helping kids discover and embrace their passions.
With the help of our local sponsors, we’ve been able to get 210 students from local Perth schools out on the water during the 2019-20 season. If you’d love to get your kid involved in sailing, get in touch to find out more about our school sailing lessons and experiences.
Take The First Step To Getting Out On The Water
sporting schools grant
Keen to get your primary school involved in more community sports? You may be eligible for a Sporting Schools grant from the Australian government to encourage fun physical activity.
Sporting Schools funding is available for primary schools and selected year 7 & 8 cohorts to deliver Sporting Schools programs before, during or after school hours via Australian Sailing.
By getting kids involved in fun and engaging sports, Sporting Schools aims to promote a positive perception of physical activity, a lesson that can last a lifetime. Connecting kids with local sports clubs is another key goal of the program, and we’ve had countless students continue to pursue sailing as junior members.
Sailing Programs For Indigenous Schools In Perth
As the Swan River was the centre of survival for the First Peoples of Australia, Mounts Bay Sailing Club pays respect to this history and ensures we acknowledge the role we play in preserving this beautiful site for future generations.
In recognition of this significant connection, we’re proud to play a role in helping Indigenous children in local primary schools and high schools kids experience sailing. With the help of our local sponsors, MBSC is collaborating with Aboriginal schools in the Perth region to provide children with sailing experiences.
It’s one of many ways Mounts Bay Sailing Club is committed to achieving our core mission: Bringing People Together On & Off the Water.
